Fragile Reinvention Exhibition
Redesign the interiors of two vacant armory buildings at Coltsville National Historical Park into an exhibition, gallery, and community space that engages with issues of gun violence.
About the Site
Coltsville Historic District, a National Historic Landmark in Hartford, Connecticut, encompasses the factory, worker housing, and owner residences associated with Samuel Colt (1814–1862), a key figure in early American precision manufacturing and firearms production. The district highlights his contributions to industrial and manufacturing practices of the period.

The Exhibit
‘Fragile Reinvention’ transforms a former site of gun manufacturing into a space for reflection. Through history, artwork, and interaction, the exhibition addresses the ongoing impact of gun violence in the United States.
Floor Plan
A series of angled 30-degree walls divide the exhibit into distinct zones. Their sharp geometry introduces a sense of uncertainty and caution, echoing the exhibition’s themes of gun violence.
Visitor Journey
Upon entering, visitors are introduced to the history of Coltsville and the role of guns in American society up to the present day. They then encounter the impacts of gun violence through panels and short videos from across the nation. Across the exhibition, contemporary artworks question our views on guns and violence. Interactive tables share resources for addressing gun violence, and a memorial garden offers space to honor those lost.
